2. Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessments incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the NETS for students. Teachers: a. design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity b. develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress c. customize and personalize learning activities to address students' diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources d. provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching
1. List ways in which you assess and evaluate student learning.
Most of the time, I assess and evaluate student learning through formative tests that the students complete after a unit. I also give quizzes throughout a unit to see if my students understand a certain lesson or topic. Once in a while I will give an open book/ open notes test.
In math this year, I recently started evaluating my students' learning by using checklists and exit slips at the end of each lesson. While I'm teaching a lesson, I'll check a certain part of the lesson to see if my students understand the skill or not. Then, I'll mark a +, *, or - on the checklist depending on whether they can do the skill or not. At the end of every unit, I'll assess my students orally on white boards and with a written exam.
1a. List at least 2 ways in which you could improve how you assess and evaluate student learning.
One way I could improve assessing student learning is by using different types of assessments. I would like to incorporate technology into my assessments so that there are not so many paper and pencil assessments. I need to differentiate my assessments so that they are not too easy for brighter students or too hard for other students.
I would also like to use more pre-assessments and post-assessments to evaluate how much a student has improved or how well I have taught something.
2. List ways in which technology plays a role in helping you and your students monitor student growth and/or achievement.
Technology can help track student growth and achievement through differnet assessments found online as well as rubrics, graphs, and charts. There are certain tests and things students can take online throughout the year that will track their growth in a chart or graph that they can see and follow.
2a. List 2 ways in which you could better utilize technology to assess students.
One way to better utilize technology is to enter data into a performance tracker and use it throughout the year with my students.
I can also use technology to come up with more creative ways to assess students instead of just the paper and pencil method.
3. List resources that will help you grow in this area.
Graphs and charts found on Successmaker, Thinkfinity.com, survey makers (Polleverywhere.com), Microsoft Excel
4. Write a summary statement of 1a and 2a above in the form of an action you can take to incorporate digital learning experiences and assessments. Add this statement to the Action Plan.
I can improve the way I assess and evaluate student growth and learning by using a variety of technology. There are websites that I can use to find different types of assessments instead of just the traditional methods, and there are surveys that I can use online to determine where my students are in their learning. When I evaluate my students' learning, I can track their growth with different computer programs or websites. These are a few ways that I can improve evaluating my students with technology.
